Gua Sha — Das Ritual, dem Kaiserinnen vertrauten.

Gua Sha — Das Ritual, dem Kaiserinnen vertrauten.

Your skin forgets nothing. Not the stress, not the sleepless nights, and certainly not the moments when you truly took care of it.

Gua Sha is not a trend. It is one of the oldest skincare practices in the world, and it has survived because it works.

The name comes from Chinese: "gua" means to scrape or stroke, "sha" describes the energy that is brought to the surface in the process. What sounds simple has a deep logic: Our face stores tension. In the jaw muscles, the temples, between the brows. Gua Sha gently moves what has settled.

What you feel after a ritual is no coincidence. Strictly speaking, it is physiology. And the most beautiful thing about this practice? You need no expensive devices, no injections, no downtime. Just a good tool, a good oil, and ten minutes that belong entirely to you.

What Gua Sha is proven to change

01

Lymphatic drainage & less puffiness

The long, upward strokes stimulate the lymphatic system just beneath the skin's surface. Fluid that has accumulated overnight is gently drained away. The result: a visibly slimmer, clearer face. Especially noticeable on the cheeks, jaw, and under the eyes.

02

Circulation & natural glow

Every movement brings fresh blood to the upper layers of the skin, with oxygen and nutrients. The skin visibly awakens, completely without foundation. Your skin will show you what it is capable of if you just let it.

03

Contouring & muscle relaxation

We hold more tension in our face
than we realize. Gua Sha releases exactly that, with targeted pressure on the jaw, temples, and forehead. What becomes visible afterward is your face when the muscles finally let go.

04

Collagen stimulation & firmness

The gentle, repeated pressure of the tool on the skin sends a signal: Repair. Renew. Over weeks and months of regular practice, elasticity and texture improve. Fine lines diminish. Slow beauty, but it lasts.

05

Deeper absorption of active ingredients

Applied with facial oil, the Gua Sha tool drives active ingredients deeper into the skin than any finger massage could. The warmth that is created opens the
surface of the skin. Your serum, your oil — everything works better. Every drop gains double the power.

06

Nervous system & inner peace

Perhaps the most underestimated benefit: the ritual itself. The slow, rhythmic strokes activate the parasympathetic nervous system, your body's "rest mode." Skin that is under less stress heals faster, ages more slowly, and radiates more. Rest is care.

The ritual. In the beginning, there was the sea.

Why real mother-of-pearl makes the difference

The material you press against your skin every day is no minor detail. Our body perceives the finest differences.

Mother-of-pearl — also called nacre — is formed over years inside living shells. It consists of the same aragonite crystals as coral reefs. The surface is naturally so smooth that it glides over the skin without tugging. Completely without friction and without irritation.

In traditional Asian beauty care, pearl has been regarded for centuries as a skin-refreshing, soothing material. Today, we additionally appreciate what science confirms: Mother-of-pearl is non-porous, does not absorb bacteria, and remains naturally cool. Exactly what inflamed or irritated skin needs.

The Gua Sha ritual — step by step

Cleanse & prepare

Start with a clean, freshly washed face. Then apply a generous amount of facial oil, e.g., squalane, rosehip, or your own personal favorite oil. The oil is the essential foundation. It gives the tool the glide it needs without straining the skin.

Cool the tool

Place your mother-of-pearl Gua Sha in the refrigerator five to ten minutes before the ritual, or hold it briefly under cold water. The cool surface immediately reduces puffiness and inflammation upon first contact. This step turns a routine into an intense experience.

Always stroke upwards & outwards

Hold the tool at a 15–30 degree angle against the skin. The pressure should be firm, but never painful. Long, conscious strokes: from the neck upwards to the chin, from the cheeks outwards towards the hairline, from the center of the forehead to the temples. Three repetitions per stroke, then move on. Never pull downwards.

Targeted release of tension points

Spend more time on the jaw, the temples, and the center of the forehead. Use the notch of the tool for precise work along the jawline. Make small, circular movements at the temples and breathe consciously while doing so. This is the meditative core of the ritual, and it changes more than just the skin.

Finish with neck & décolleté

Always end the ritual with long strokes down the neck towards the collarbone. This is where the lymphatic pathway ends, and only when you perform this step can the fluid you mobilized during the ritual actually drain. It is the step most people skip. It is the most important one.

Complete the ritual & nourish

Afterward, apply your moisturizer. Your skin is now optimally prepared to absorb it. Clean your mother-of-pearl tool with a soft cloth and cold water. Store it flat or in its pouch, protected from direct sunlight. With proper care, your Gua Sha will be a lifelong companion.

"The most beautiful thing about a ritual is not the result you see tomorrow. It's about what you feel right now. That one short break in the day that belongs entirely to you."
